If you bought the story about the Great Amazonfail being a glitch caused by an unfortunate French programmer, then I suggest you read this by author Francine Saint Marie. Apparently they've been de-ranking LGBT works since 2008 - targeting titles for Kindle. A lot still remains to be explained about what's going on.

At last we have the answer as to why LJ was cracking down on all the HP fandom erotica! Their new sponsors are - wait for it - HP! They couldn't have the new corporate sponsors thinking we were all drawing smutty pictures of Mr Hewlett and Mr Packard having steamy underage gay sex in the inventing shed, could they? And now they have an HP sponsored writing competition - hmmm! Perhaps they'd like some real HP slash?

Nowadays when throwing LOLcats at our new puritan overlords in LJ newsposts, the rallying song of the masses is 'The Internet is for Porn!'. However I belong to an earlier generation who remember the songs of the great Tom Lehrer, long before the interwebs were thought of, so gather round me little childer, and all together now

I do have a cause though. It is obscenity. I'm for it. Unfortunately the civil liberties types who are fighting this issue have to fight it, owing to the nature of the laws, as a matter of freedom of speech and stifling of free expression and so on, but we know what's really involved: dirty books are fun. That's all there is to it. But you can't get up in a court and say that, I suppose. It's simply a matter of freedom of pleasure, a right which is not guaranteed by the Constitution unfortunately. Anyway, since people seem to be marching for their causes these days I have here a march for mine. It's called Smut!"- Tom Lehrer

Lyrics here!
